Huntington, W.Va. - The Big Green Scholarship Foundation Dinner scheduled for Thursday, April 24 has been canceled. Larry Brown, who was scheduled to be the keynote speaker, informed Marshall Officials this weekend that he would be unable to attend the event.
"I was contacted by Coach Brown and he has to be in New York City this Thursday," said Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum. "This came up unexpectedly and he was very apologetic about the inconvenience."
"This is an unfortunate situation and we know Coach Brown would be here if it were at all possible," Big Green President Mark George said. "Every attempt was made to find a suitable replacement, however with such short notice it did not work out. We looked at postponing the event and due to scheduling conflicts, and the lack of an air conditioning system in the Henderson Center Arena, we decided it was not feasible to have the dinner in the summer."
The Big Green Scholarship Foundation will contact those who purchased tables and individual tickets this week to refund their money.
