Second annual Foundations on the Fairway golf tournament tees off Oct. 1 at Guyan Golf and Country Club

Sept. 11, 2007

On Monday, Oct. 1, the Big Green Scholarship Foundation and St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation will host the second annual "Foundations on the Fairway" golf scramble at Guyan Golf and Country Club. The tournament is presented by Fifth Third Bank and kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with registration and a health fair. Play begins at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start, lunch will be served on the course and the day will wrap up with a tailgate party and awards ceremony. All proceeds from the event will be used to fund Marshall University athletic scholarship costs and the campaign to build a new Center for Education at St. Mary's for its Schools of Nursing, Medical Imaging and Respiratory Care.

Marshall University's nationally recognized athletics program features 16 varsity sports that compete in Conference USA. The Big Green Scholarship Foundation has been supporting athletics for more than 60 years and provides financial support for more than 350 student-athletes. Through community support, student-athletes succeed in the classroom and on the playing field.

St. Mary's Medical Center is proud of its role as the only medical center in West Virginia that owns and operates a School of Nursing, School of Medical Imaging, and School of Respiratory Care. The current educational facility built in 1947 severely lacks classroom space and equipment. The new Center for Education to be built on the corner of 29th Street and 5th Avenue will more than double the size of the existing school allowing St. Mary's to respond to the anticipated nursing shortage and provide the latest in training technology.
