Brandon Parro, in his sixth year with the Marshall sports information office, is the primary media contact and publicist for the Thundering Herd men's basketball and golf teams. He also assists in the coverage and promotion of all 15 of Marshall's Division I athletic programs.
Parro's career at Marshall began as a graduate assistant in August of 2002. The following summer he was promoted to Assistant Sports Information Director (interim), a post he held for one year, prior to being named Associate Sports Information Director in July of 2004. He previously served as SID for the MU baseball team along with the women's basketball, golf, volleyball and swimming and diving teams.
A native of Hershey, Pa., Parro earned his bachelor's degree in communications media from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2001. In May of 2004 he received his master's degree in athletic administration from Marshall.
His father, Dave Parro, played over 10 years of professional hockey and was the first goaltender selected in the 1977 National Hockey League Draft (Boston). After getting claimed by the Quebec Nordiques in the '79 Expansion Draft and later traded to Washington, he made his NHL debut with the Capitals in 1981 and would go on to play four seasons in D.C.
Parro is a member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, the United States Basketball Writers Association, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Prior to MU, Parro interned in the sports information office at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001. He is single and resides in Huntington.
