The Constitution Of "Marshall Maniacs" At Marshall University

This document serves to provide a clear and accurate description of Maniac responsibilities, benefits, and any other questions pertaining to the "Marshall Maniacs".

I. Statement of Purpose

"Marshall Maniacs" are the official Marshall University student group that promotes student involvement in all Marshall University Athletics not only in attending and supporting athletic events but also getting involved, creating awareness of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation, and support for your alma mater.

II. Statement of Non-discrimination

The Maniacs, in accordance with applicable Federal and State Law and university Policy, does not discriminate, on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, disability, age, medical condition (cancer related), ancestry, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation or status as a Vietnam Veteran or special disabled Veteran.

The Marshall Maniacs also prohibits sexual harassment. This non-discrimination policy covers organization membership, access to organization programs and activities, and the general treatment of members in the organization.

III. Operating Procedures

A. Maniac Points Rewards - Maniac points are tallied at each event by two Maniac members, assigned by the Athletic Coordinator, by using Marshall Maniac ID cards. Unless otherwise arranged, Maniac point tallying will occur prior to an event until 15 minutes after the game has started. The extra point for those in the correct section of Maniacs will be tallied by the appointed officers and over a fifteen minute span at a random time during the event. As a member obtains the required amount of points for a specified reward their points continue to build and will continue until the end of spring semester, when they will finally be transferred into Big green points as described below.

B. Marshall Maniac Points - Maniac points are awarded for pre-specified participation in Maniac activities and events as an incentive and reward for membership. These points will accumulate during your time as a student at Marshall.

Points are allotted as follows:

• Attendance at Maniac meetings - 2 points
• Attendance at Football games - 3 points
• Attendance at Men's Basketball games - 3 points
• Attendance at Women's Basketball games - 4 points
• Attendance at Men's soccer games - 3 points
• Attendance at Women's soccer games - 4 points
• Attendance at Tennis match - 4 points
• Attendance at Swim meet - 4 points
• Maniac Officer - 15 points
• Volunteering at an event will be awarded 5 points on top of event attended.
• Renewal - 2 points

C. The Big Green - In becoming a Marshall Maniac you also become a member of The Big Green Scholarship Foundation. The Big Green is an alumni association which entitles priority to those who obtain a higher number of points. Once you graduate you are awarded 1 point for every $100 you donate, but as a student you are awarded 1 point for every $10 you donate. When you sign up to be a Marshall Maniac the $10 you pay is sent to the Big Green fund and you become a member. The Big green has agreed to transfer 5% of all your points at the end of spring semester into Big Green points. Giving all Marshall Maniacs a big head start for their upcoming alumni years. You will receive these points along with your rewards from the maniacs.

IV. Organizational Structure

Marshall Maniac membership is available to all current Marshall Student's (undergraduate, and graduate).

A. Executive Committee - The Executive Committee will consist of the following 10 members:

Membership Coordinator

• Responsibilities
  • Recruiting new members
  • Work with Communications Coordinator with fliers and email as it pertains to recruitment
  • Maniac registration
  • Organizes recruitment throughout the year and during freshman/transfer orientations during the summer
  • Any distribution or problems pertaining with Maniac ID's

Communications Coordinator

Athletic Coordinator

• Responsibilities
• All Maniac attendance at sporting events (swiping ID's)
• Promotes equal support of all sports
• Monitors and promotes critical sports events for Maniac support

Treasurer

• Responsibilities
• Manages and coordinates the groups resources
• Monetary contributions

• Most business savvy of Maniac Members

V. Voting and Election Procedures

• Executive Committee Vote
• Executive committee replacement vote: 4/5 by remaining members
• If no candidate receives 4/5 vote, the two highest candidates will have a run off
• Vote for Assistance
• General Executive vote: 4/5
• Can only be requested by Executive Committee members
• Vote for Replacement
• Can only be requested by Executive Committee members
• Officers in question cannot vote for or against approval
• General Executive Member vote: 4/5
• Constitution Amendments
• Can be requested by any Maniac member who has 80 points or more
• The request must be accompanied by a written proposal containing change or addition to the constitution.
• The Executive Committee views the proposal in the following meeting.
