Stephani Eastman Places in Top 10 of Woodford Trials

VERSAILLES, Ky.- The first meet of the 2005 season for Marshall's cross country team proved to be a losing battle; however, the women did place a runner within the top ten finishers. The Thundering Herd ran with Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky in Louisville in the Woodford Trials Friday, September 2. The Wildcats swept the women's field and on the men's side Eastern Kentucky won three of the four match ups. Marshall's Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) placed tenth in the women's two mile run with a time of 12:28.00. Finishing below Eastman in the places of 16, 25, 30, 31 and 32 were Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.), Emily Bailey(Kenova, W.Va.), Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.), Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.) and Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.) respectively.
On the men's side Jonathan Nelson (Barboursville, W.Va.) was the Herd's top finisher at 16 place with a time of 16:59.00 in the 5k event. The closest Herd runner,Travis Epling (Point Pleasant, W.Va.), came in 10 spots below Nelson at 26. The remaining Herd runners, Matt Null (Hometown, W.Va.), Andrew Ramell (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Ryan Slone (Chesapeak, Ohio), John Davis (Kenova, W.Va.) and Straten Schemel (Burnt House, W.Va.) placed in 30, 31, 33, 35, and 36 respectively.
The Herd will run next on Friday, September 16, at the Cincinnati Invitational.
