Brooks Leads Marshall at 34th Annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall Thundering Herd men's cross country team finished 12th and the women tied for 15th at the 34th Annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University Chicago earlier today. Marian Brooks ran for the top Marshall finish by placing 13th in the women's gold division. The race was held on the shore of Lake Michigan and consisted of a 5k course for the women and an 8k loop for the men. Marshall's teams were in the gold division where they raced against other Division I teams and any ranked DII, DII, NAIA and Canadian teams. Brooks outran 162 other runners with a time of 18:27. Emily Bailey was the next to cross the finish line for Marshall with a time of 20:02. Allison Cox logged a time 43 seconds after Bailey for a result of 20:45. Crossing the finish line within 21 seconds of each other were Sarah Sturgill and Anna Chaney with times of 21:07 and 21:28, respectively. Rounding out the team was Rebecca Minardi and Lauren Brooks with times of 22:20 and 25:33. Meanwhile, the men were led by Jon Nelson with a time of 26:16 and 50th place in the 8k event. Travis Epling followed Nelson with a time of 26:34. Matt Null and Andrew Ramell couldn't have finished much closer. Null finished in 74th with a time of 26:47 and Ramell 75th with his time of 26:48. Straten Schemel, John Davis and Ryan Slone finished next in 115th, 133rd and 147th places, respectively. Darryl Dorsey Jr. and Steven Burr ended the race in spots 154 and 186. Grand Valley State took both the women's and men's crowns at the meet. Marshall will race again on Oct. 14 at the Furman Invitational.
