Jon Nelson Finishes Sean Earl Lakefront Classic in Top 100

Nelson finished 93rd overall with a time of 26:15 in the 8,000m run.

CHICAGO- The Marshall men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Sean Earl Lakefront Classic for the third season consecutively in Chicago Saturday. The men's top finisher was Jon Nelson (Barboursville, W.Va.) in 93rd place with a time of 26:15. Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.) was the highest finisher in 123rd place with a time of 19:43 for the women.

In the men's 8,000m run, Travis Epling (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) was the second member of the men's squad to cross the finish line with a time of 27:50. Veteran runner Ryan Slone (Chesapeake, Ohio) logged a time of 28:16 placing him 210th overall. Rounding out the team for Marshall were runners John Davis (Kenova, W.Va), Andrew Ramell (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Matt Null (Hometown, W.Va) and Straten Schemel (Burnt House, W.Va). The men finished 26th overall in team competition.

Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) finished 16 seconds after Brooks with a time of 19:59 in the women's 5,000m run. Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J) ran with a time of 21:20, a 26-second improvement from last year's time (21:46). Emily Bailey (Kenova, W.Va), Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va) and Fabiola Gonzales (Huntington, W.Va.) logged times of 21:53, 22:34 and 23:45, respectively.

The Thundering Herd will race again at Furman on Oct. 8 and at EKU on Oct. 14.
