Casey Batey Earns All-Mac Honors as Both Marshall Teams Finish Ninth in MAC Championship

Ypsilanti, Mich. – Senior Casey Batey (Milton, WV) earned second team All-MAC honors today while both the men’s and women’s cross country teams took ninth place in the MAC Championship.

Batey recorded a seventh place finish out of 99 runners with a time of 25:22.2. This effort won Batey his fifth All-MAC title, but his first in cross country.

Marshall Men’s execution gave them a ninth place finish out of 12 teams. Also scoring for the men were Craig Swisher (Bidwell, Ohio), 23, Robert Smith (Huntington, WV), 55, Brent Garrett (Charleston, WV), 70, and Mike Jones (Parkersburg, WV), 74.

The women also sealed a ninth place finish out of 13 teams with sophomore Shelby Pride (Bethel, Ohio) leading the way. Pride finished 28 out of 110 runners with a time of 19:16.7. Jennifer Merschoff (Ronkonoma, NY) followed closely behind marking a 32 finish and a time of 19:22.0.

Other scorers for the women included Sarah Corley (Fairmont, WV), 49, Jessica Taylor (Fayetteville, WV), 69, and Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, WV), 70.

Boaz Cheboiywo of Eastern Michigan dominated the men’s race finishing with a time of 24:11.0 and leading his team to the men’s team title. Briana Shook of Toledo won the women’s meet with the time 17:49.9, also ranking her team number one for the women.
