Marshall Cross Country Travels to Lehigh University for NCAA Regional Championship
Nov. 11, 2005 HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall cross country team will compete in what could be the final meet of the season on Saturday in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. At 11 a.m. then men will take to the 10k course on the Goodman Campus. Marshall faces competition against 29 other teams in the meet. Traveling for the Herd is Travis Epling (Point Pleasant, W.Va.), Andrew Ramell (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Straten Schemel (Burnt House, W.Va.), John Davis (Kenova, W.Va.), Ryan Slone (Chesapeake, Ohio), Jon Nelson (Barboursville, W.Va.) and Matt Null (Hometown, W.Va.). The Herd most recently ran at the Conference USA Championship in Orlando, Fla., where Nelson and Epling turned in their season-best performances in the 8k event. The women will compete at noon in a 6k event also being held on Goodman Campus. Twenty-eight other teams will be running alongside Marshall in the regional race. Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.), Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.), Emily Bailey (Kenova, W.Va.), Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.), Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.), Hannah Koverick (Hurricane, W.Va.) and Rebecca Minardi (Dayton, Ohio) will all run for Marshall. Brooks was the top finisher at the C-USA Championship in 22nd place with a season-best time of 18:21.01 in the 5k. The top three teams and five individuals from each race will advance to the NCAA Finals to be held on Nov. 21 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind.
