Marshall Cross Country To Run in NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Cross Country Team is preparing to head to Lockhaven, Pa., to compete in the NCAA Mid- Atlantic Cross Country Regional, Saturday.
Competing for the Thundering Herd men’s squad will be juniors Craig Swisher (Bidwell, Ohio) and Mike Jones (Parkersburg, W.Va.). Senior Eric Anderson (Huntington, W.Va.), and freshmen Mathew Lucas, Ryan Slone, and William Watson. The women’s squad will be sending six runners including four seniors: Shelby Pride (Bethel, Ohio), Sarah Corley (Fairmont, W.Va.), Varinka Barbini (Hamburg, NJ), and Ryann Metheny (Elkins, W.Va.). Rounding up the participants for the women are junior Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) and sophomore Stephanie Achillies (Deptford, NJ).
Barbini led the way for the Thundering Herd in the 2003 MAC Championships, placing 46th with a time of 18:56. Swisher was the top finisher for the men at a 53rd showing with a time of 26:07.
The event is hosted by Bucknell University. The men are scheduled to compete at 11:00 a.m., and the women at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, the 15th. Individuals who qualify at that meet will advance to the NCAA Championship meet on Nov. 24 at Northern Iowa University.
