YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Huntington native Matt White hit two home runs and freshman pitcher Brandon Bartos worked 7 1/3 strong innings as Marshall defeated Eastern Michigan 12-8 Friday night to snap a seven-game losing streak.
The Herd, which improved to 23-27 overall and 10-15 in Mid-American Conference play, roughed up Eastern Michigan pitcher Joe Linde (6-6) for 15 hits as Linde went the distance in the game.
Matt Eldridge, White and Bryan Colley did the most damage, combining for seven hits and 11 RBI. Eastern Michigan fell to 18-32 on the year overall and 12-11 in MAC play, dealing a serious blow to the Eagles' post-season hopes.
Bartos (5-2) Allowed eight runs, six earned, on 11 hits in his longest career outing. He walked four and struck out three before giving way to Chris Meadows, who earned his first save by working the final 1 2/3 innings.
EMU jumped on top early, plating a pair of unearned runs in the first. The Herd answered with three in the third inning on an Eldridge homer, his 10th of the year, but the Eagles went back on top with two in the bottom of the inning on a solo homer by Gregory Anglin and a sacrifice fly.
Marshall got the bats going from there, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead. White hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Colley had a three-run double in the sixth.
Colley came back with a two run double in the eighth inning and White hit a solo homer in the ninth to plate the Herd's remaining runs.
The two teams will get together again on Saturday for a double header beginning at 1 p.m. They will both close out the regular season on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
