HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University baseball head coach Jeff Waggoner recently announced the addition of left-handed pitcher Benjamin Frith, who signed an NLI to play for the Thundering Herd in the 2009 season.

The 6-foot-1-inch Lafayette, La. native is a 2008 graduate of Westminster Christian Academy. Frith competed in four sports during his high school career including baseball (2004-2008), basketball (2004-2007), football (2005-2007), and track (2008).

Frith had his best season pitching in 2008 when he registered a 1.20 ERA in 81.2 innings with 130 strikeouts. He held opposing hitters to just a .144 batting average en route to a 9-4 record in his senior campaign.

Frith finished his high school career with a 2.24 ERA in 206 frames on the hill. He totaled 262 strikeouts and limited opponents to just a .184 hitting clip. Frith pitched 11 complete games in 18 starts in 2007 and hurled 10 complete games in 16 starts in 2008.

Frith also excels in the classroom. He obtained a 3.67 GPA in high school and plans to major in Engineering upon his arrival to Marshall. His academic accomplishments include a third-place finish in the 2008 Division IV State Rally in physics, a first place finish in the 2008 District Rally in physics, a first place finish in the 2007 District Rally in advanced math, and a top finish in the 2006 District Rally in chemistry. Frith also received the Louisiana Board of Regents Scholar Certificate of Recognition and was a WCA Honors graduate.
