KENT, Ohio (AP) - Trevor Huffman scored 23 points Saturday as Kent State took the lead with 13:48 left in the first half and never gave it up in the Golden Flashes' 89-67 win over Marshall.
The Thundering Herd (11-4, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) led until Andrew Mitchell made a 3-pointer with 15:23 remaining in the first half to tie the score at 12. Less than 2 minutes later, Kyrem Massey sank a jumper to grab the lead for Kent State (12-5, 5-1 MAC).
J.R. Vanhoose led the scoring for Marshall with 22 points, followed by Cornelius Jackson with 14.
Although both teams turned the ball over 12 times, Kent State was able to score 20 points off turnovers, compared to 9 for Marshall. Kent State also outshot Marshall on total field goals - 52.89 percent versus 40.3 percent.
The Golden Flashes shot 90.9 percent from the line making 30 of 33 free throws.
