Herd Addresses Needs With 2002 Signing Class
2/6/2002
Marshall University head football coach Bob Pruett said he was excited about the potential of the Herd’s 2002 spring signing class.
Marshall signed 11 players on signing day this year and addressed needs at several positions.
“We targeted some very specific needs in recruiting this year and we thinks we accomplished our goals,” Pruett said. “We are excited about the new players we have coming in, but we are also excited about the players we have returning from last year.
“We’ll just have to wait to see what kind of players these signees will be when we get them on campus in August.”
Among the signees are two linemen, three receiver/defensive backs, three quarterbacks, two outside linebackers and a running back.
One of the signees, Dennis Thornton, an outside linebacker from Spotsylvania, Pa., is already enrolled in classes at Marshall and will be eligible to participate in spring drills. He comes from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
The Thundering Herd, coming off an 11-2 season and a double overtime victory over East Carolina in the GMAC Bowl, will open spring practice on Monday, March 11. Spring drills are scheduled to conclude on Saturday, April 13, with the annual Green-White Spring Game at Marshall Stadium.
Like past years, spring practice this year will include a road practice. This year that day will be Saturday, March 23, at South Charleston.
