Marshall University Director of Athletics Lance West announced today that Brian Coutras will take over the responsibilities of Director of Football Operations for the Herd beginning March 1.
Coutras, a native of Nashville, Tenn., has served as the Herd’s Athletic Equipment Manager since 1999. He replaces Andy Friedlander, who resigned from the position recently for personal reasons.
“Brian has demonstrated a great work ethic along with an extreme attention to detail as our equipment manager for the last three years,” West said. “He had expressed an interest in developing into an athletic administrator and we are confident in his abilities as he takes over this new position.”
The Director of Football Operation is responsible for handling team travel arrangements, assists in recruiting and performs other duties as assigned by the head football coach.
“I look at this move as a new challenge for me in my career in athletics,” Coutras said. “I’m just glad that I will have the opportunity to take on this new challenge in a familiar environment. Working with people that I have established relationship with will make the transition a lot easier.”
West said that Coutras will continue to oversee the equipment room while the search for a replacement is conducted.
“We will conduct a nationwide search and hope to have someone in place by the start of spring football practice,” West said.
The Herd is scheduled to open spring drills on March 11.
