Campus Changes Result In Parking Upgrades

HUNTINGTON, WV -- A variety of changes around Marshall University Stadium, along with the planned construction of a new parking garage across from the Henderson Center, will result in some changes in parking assignments for the 2001 Marshall football season.

The two most noticeable changes are right near Marshall University Stadium. First, the handicap parking on the East side of the stadium no longer exists as a result of expansion to the football practice field and the Sam Hood Soccer Field. Handicapped parking will now be in 4 1/2 Alley, behind the scoreboard.

Secondly, the old Butler Building has been torn down, making room for additional parking on what will be called the West Lot Annex. Those spots will go to Herd fans who have been on a waiting list for spots in the West Lot through the Big Green.

There will also now be a limited number of parking spot available in the Maintenance Lot through the Big Green. The other major event that will effect Herd fans this fall, and on into the fall of 2002, is the construction of a new parking garage across from the Henderson Center on what has been the G tailgating lot. Herd fans who have had passes on G Lot in the past will be moved down Third Avenue into F Lot, where there will actually be more spaces available than ever before.

"We are excited about the construction of the parking garage across from the Henderson Center," Marshall Director of Athletics Lance West said. "When it is completed it will not only provide much needed student parking throughout the school year, but will also provide increased parking capacity for home football and basketball games.

"We are gaining more spaces, but we are going to have to move people around to allow for construction of the new garage." There will also be changes in game day parking for members of the media. Instead of being scattered in three or four locations, all members of the media will park in one area, which will increase media parking to more than 100 spots.

Members of the media, who have in the past parked in 4 1/2 Alley, the Y Lot, G Lot and around the Henderson Center Tarmac will all park in what will be called D Lot on 18th Street behind Gullickson Hall. Shuttle services for members of the media will run every 15 minutes before and after all Marshall football games to and from the parking area. This change will allow equal access to the stadium for all media members.
