Men's Golf Finishes In A Tie For Third Place At Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Marshall junior Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.) fired a final-round 69 to lead the Herd to a tie for third place at the 20-team Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday. The Herd finished with a final total of 882 (300-291-291), which tied Jacksonville University for third place. The third place finish is the best for men's golf so far in 2006-07. Marshall's 291 on Sunday catapulted the Thundering Herd from eighth place to third, with Schambach and Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) leading the way. Schambach posted back-to-back 69's on Saturday and Sunday to finish with a total of 215 (77-69-69), which was good for a tie for fifth place, while Warren shot a final-round 71 to post a 216 (72-73-71), which put him in a tie for seventh. Marshall's other counting scores on Sunday was Jonathan Pepe's (McKeesport, Pa.) 75 and Christian Brand's (Charleston, W.Va.) 76. Pepe ended the tournament with a 225 (76-74-75, T-50), while Brand finished with a 227 (76-75-76, T-65). Andy Foster (Vinton, Va.), Marshall's other scoring player, finished the tournament with a 232 (76-78-78, T-84). Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.) played as an individual and posted a 235 (80-78-77, T-97). Virginia Tech captured the team title with an 873 (297-286-290). Jayson Judy of Elon won medalist honors with a three-round total of 211 (71-71-69).
Marshall returns home for the Marshall Invitational on April 6th and 7th at Guyan Golf an Country Club. ### |
