Adams Cup - FINAL RESULTS Get Acrobat Reader

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Marshall University men's golf team concluded the Adams Cup on Tuesday in 13th place in the team standings with freshman Carson Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.) leading the way for the Thundering Herd with a 54-hole score of 229 (76-74-79). The Adams Cup, a 16-team event hosted by the University of Rhode Island, was played at the 7,160-yard, par-72 Newport National Golf Course.

Texas A&M (856) won the Adams Cup team title 13 strokes ahead of Minnesota (869). Fellow Conference USA member Southern Miss (891) placed fourth while Marshall compiled a team total of 925 (309-305-311).

Schambach finished one stroke better than senior Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.), who carded a 230 (74-77-79) in a tie for 42nd place. Schambach and Kinker both wrapped up Adams Cup play with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday after each fired a round of 74 on day one, MU's best single-round score of the tournament.

Schambach also led all Adams Cup competitors with two eagles, one in today's final round and one in Monday's second round.

Sophomore Bennett Boyer (Millersburg, Pa.) posted the Herd's best score of the final round with a 4-over 76. Junior Christian Brand (Charleston, W.Va.) recorded his second straight round of 77 to place in a tie for 47th.

Texas A&M provided the medalist and second-place finisher of the Adams Cup as Bronson Burgoon (204) and Andrea Pavan (211) placed first and second, respectively, and were the lone golfers under par for the championship.

Marshall's next event begins on Monday in Louisville, Ky., at the U of L-hosted Cardinal Intercollegiate.
