Aaron Williams Leads Marshall Golf With Fourth Place Finish At Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Marshall University junior Aaron Williams shot rounds of 74, 68, and 72 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place at Michigan State University's Bruce Fossum/TeamGearOnline.com Invitational this weekend.


Williams, a native of New Boston, Ohio, recorded a two-day total of 214 (+1) to finish just nine strokes behind the tournament's individual medalist Luke Donald of Northwestern who finished eight-under-par at 205. Minnesota's Wilhelm Schauman placed second at 207, while Northwestern's Chris Thayer took third at 209.


Bolstered by the strong play of Donald and Thayer, Northwestern took the team championship with a combined score of 851, topping second place Minnesota by 10 strokes. Michigan State finished third at 863.

Marshall finished 13th in the 15-team field with a three round total of 892. The Herd's Tim Lynch shot rounds of 72, 76, and 75 to finish at 223, Steve Sisson shot rounds of 77, 74, and 76 to finish at 227, Brian Perry shot rounds of 77, 76, and 75 to finish at 228, and Ryan Stewart shot rounds of 78, 77, and 85 to finish at 240.

The Thundering Herd golf team will next compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Medallion Club in Columbus, Ohio, May 2-5.
