Golf Team Finishes Seventh In MAC Championship

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Marshall University's men's golf team completed the 2001 season with a seventh place finish in the Mid-American Conference Championship that ended today at the Medallion Club.


The Thundering Herd posted a four-round team total of 1212. Kent State won the MAC Championship for the fifth consecutive year with a dominating performance, finishing 10-under par at 1142. Toledo (1165) finished second, followed by Miami (1182), Eastern Michigan (1198), and Ball State (1200).


Marshall was led by Brian Perry, Aaron Williams, and Steve Sisson. Perry, a junior from New Smyrna Beach, Fla., finished with a four-round total of 303 after shooting rounds of 73, 72, 78, and 80 on the par 72 course to finish in 26th place. Williams, a junior from New Boston, Ohio, recorded rounds of 76, 75, 74, and 80 to finish at 305 and in a tie for 28th, along with Sisson, a junior from Huntington, W.Va., who tallied rounds of 74, 84, 73, and 74.

Williams, the team captain, was named second team All-MAC for his efforts throughout the season. He entered the Championships with a 74.1 stroke average that ranked among the top seven in the conference.


The Thundering Herd's other scores were: Ryan Stewart (74, 75, 81 and 81 for 306) and Tim Lynch (78, 77, 81, 81 for 317).


Kent State's Jon Mills won the individual title with a score of 281 (-7). The Golden Flashes' Danny Sahl and Toledo's Sean McTernan tied for second at 286.
