Golf's Aaron Williams Named Second Team All Mid American Conference

5/7/2001

Marshall University men's golfer Aaron Williams was named second-team All-Mid-American Conference by the league's coaches this weekend at the MAC Golf Championships in Westerville, Ohio.

Williams, a junior from New Boston, Ohio, led the Thundering Herd this season with a team-low stroke average of 74.35, which ranked him among the Top-10 individuals in the MAC this season.

"Any individual award is great and I am happy for Aaron," said Marshall Golf Coach Joe Feaganes. "He played well all year and to be honored by the league's coaches in this manner is truly a great honor."

His stroke average also ties former Herd golfer Sam O'Dell's 1997 and 2000 stroke averages as the third best in school history, trailing only Harold Payne and Jonathan Clark's single season records of 74.1 that were set in 1977 and 1996, respectively.

This season Williams served as team captain on one of Marshall's youngest teams in recent memory. The Thundering Herd roster featured five freshman, three juniors, and one senior, with Williams being the only experienced returnee from the previous year. Next year, Marshall will return every starter from this year's squad that finished seventh at the MAC Championships.
