LaCrone Scores Two Goals in Exhibition Win Over VMI
Aug. 22, 2008
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Behind two goals from senior Kolby LaCrone (Zanesville, Ohio), the Marshall University men's soccer wrapped up their exhibition season with a victory over VMI 4-2 Friday at Sam Hood Field. LaCrone's first goal came via penalty kick in the first half and his second came at the 50- minute from a corner kick giving the assist to sophomore Sammy Boateng (Accra, Ghana). "We're coming together as a team as we should," head coach Bob Gray said. "We're into a new system; we're working out the kinks." Seniors Osric Flores (Everett, Wash.) and Sterling Flunder (Bothell, Wash.) each added a goal for the Thundering Herd. Flores scored the team's first goal at the 15-mintue mark of a rebound, while Flunder found the back of the net off of a second penalty kick. "I knew going into this year we are going to score goal by committee," Gray said. "We had a lot of chances today. Our final pass needs to be sharper but it's always good to put four in the back of the net." After the Flores goal, the Keydets scored 12 minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. The Herd then scored three-straight to take a 4-1 before VMI scored again at the 69-minute mark. Senior Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.) played the entire game once again for Marshall making five saves and allowing two goals. After finishing its exhibition schedule, Marshall will prepare for the season opener at the Davidson Invitational against College of Charleston Friday August 29 at 5:00 p.m.
