DAVIDSON, N.C. - The College of Charleston netted two goals to defeat Marshall 2-0 in the team's season opener at the Davidson Invitational Friday.

The Cougars (1-0) scored their first goal against the Thundering Herd (0-1) in the 41st-mintue with their second coming from a shot six feet out in the second half.

"This is a team that's favored to win the Southern Conference," Marshall head coach Bob Gray said. "They out played us and out worked us."

Senior Osric Flores (Everett, Wash.) led the Herd with two shots in the game while freshman Marco Franca (Miami, Fla.) managed the team's only shot on goal of the game.

In the net for Marshall, senior Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.) managed two saves in 90-minutes of action with two goals allowed.

The Herd will try to rebound from the opening loss against host Davidson Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. showdown.

The game will be available via broadcast through Davidson's website, http://www.davidsonwildcats.com/. To view the game there is a fee of $5.95.
