Richmond Men's Soccer Outscores Marshall, 4-2
Sept. 13, 2008 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Marshall University men's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent Richmond 4-2 Saturday at the Duquesne Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa. Richmond (1-4) scored in the sixth minute off of a Ben Brewster goal but Marshall (0-5) would answer just 30-seconds later when sophomore Sammy Boateng (Accra, Ghana) scored his first goal of the season. Six minutes later into the first, the Spider would take the lead once again when Scott Loesser scored. Richmond would then jump to 3-1 lead in the 16th minute off a Jake Russell goal. Marshall would cut the lead in half just before the half when sophomore Kendall Sutton (Wheaton, Md.) found the back of the net for his goal of the new season. The Spiders however wouldn't let the Herd any closer as they scored in the 72nd minute when Russell snuck his second goal of the night past senior goalkeeper Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.). Walter finished the night with four saves. Marshall managed to have eight more shots in the game than Richmond but both teams were equal with shots on goal with eight apiece. The Herd will be back in action Friday Sept. 19 at the Dayton Tournament as they take on host Dayton at 8 p.m. In the second game Marshall will play against Butler Sunday Sept. 21 with a noon start time.
