HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Kentucky used three open net goals and one penalty kick to knock off Marshall men's soccer in the Conference USA for both teams, Wednesday at Sam Hood Field.

The Thundering Herd (0-8-1) found itself behind in the 20th minute when the Wildcats (5-2-2) scored an open net goal from Sam Vernalls.

The lead would sit at 1-0 going into the break but Kentucky would score two quick goals in the 47th minute both coming from Michael Strong. Strong leads the Wildcats with seven goals on the year.

Senior Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.) played the length of the game for Marshall with three saves while his counterpart Dan Williams finished with six saves for the Wildcats.

Kentucky's last goal came on a penalty kick from Jase Griffiths in the 87th minute.

For the Herd, senior Sterling Flunder (Bothell, Wash.) led the team with four shots on goal.

Marshall will complete its three-game home stand against C-USA opponent UCF Saturday, Oct. 4 at Sam Hood Field. The game will start at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
