ORLANDO, Fla. - Marshall junior forward Kolby LaCrone recorded his seventh goal in the Herd's season finale to capture a 2-1 victory over Central Florida, Friday evening's Conference USA match at the UCF Soccer Complex.

The Herd concludes the regular season with an overall record of 9-8-1 and a 3-5-0 finish in C-USA action, while the Knights end with a 4-12-2 record and 0-6-2 in conference action.

Marshall jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first half when Dana Heimbecker beat the Knight's goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. Heimbecker received a pass from junior Jira Cooley, who then broke through the defense and outmaneuvered past UCF's Sean Johnson three minutes into the game.

The Herd would go on to dominant the half firing 12 shots to Central Florida's four, but was unable to increase its narrow lead.

Marshall came out strong in the second half, again scoring in the first five minutes. At the 48:32 mark, LaCrone blasted a shot from outside the 18-yard box that sailed to the left side of the net. Senior defender Jeff Lenix found LaCrone on the right side of the field and sent a cross to him to give the Herd the 2-0 advantage.

The Knights would come back nearly three minutes later to cut the Herd lead in half. At the 51:47 mark, Matt Luzunaris registered his fourth goal of the season after scoring on a breakaway off a pass from Ryan Roushandel. Luzunaris received the Rounshandel pass and dribbled down the left side line before placing a shot over the head of Marshall's Brad Kennedy.

UCF outshot the Herd in the second half 13-3, but couldn't manage to even the score. The Herd's Kennedy made his second consecutive start after suffering an injury midway through the season. He was credited with four saves.

Marshall head coach Bob Gray earned his 380th career victory, his 125th at Marshall. He currently ranks sixth on the NCAA Division I winningest active men's soccer coaches.

The Herd clinched sixth place in the conference and will meet Kentucky in the C-USA Championship quarterfinal, Wednesday, Nov. 14 with the time to be determined. The University of Alabama at Birmingham will be hosting the conference championship. For more information please visit the conference website at www.conferenceusa.com.
