Former Marshall Goalkeeper Joins Kansas City Wizards of MLS

6/15/2001

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kansas City Wizards, the 2000 Major League Soccer Champion, called up former Marshall University goalkeeper Taly Goode from the Atlanta Silverbacks of the A-League. Goode will dress for the matches with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Wednesday, and D.C. United, Saturday.

In the second-round of the A-League amateur draft this past February, the Silverbacks selected the former Herd co-captain. The goalkeeper has started two matches for Atlanta and logged a full 180-minutes. Goode went 1-1 with a goal against average of 1.50 and posted 11 saves in the two matches. In his major league debut, the native of Woodbridge, Virginia, recorded seven saves and was instrumental as the Silverbacks edged the Nashville Metros, 2-1, back on May 5th.

Prior to the Wizards match in Miami last Saturday, June 9th, goalkeeper Tony Meola was one of seven MLS goalkeepers to play every minute in net for their respective teams. The 2000 Honda MVP and MLS Goalkeeper of the year had only missed one game all last season and it was due to U.S. National Team commitments. In an attempt to stop a Fusion goal scoring opportunity Saturday night, Meola left the match due to an abdominal strain injury. After further diagnosis, Meola will not dress for the match tomorrow night. With an open roster spot, the Wizards called up Goode. The keeper has performed quite well for the Silverbacks and was impressive at the MLS training camp.

The Wizards and Galaxy will face-off, Wednesday, 10 p.m. (EST), at The Rose Bowl. The match will be televised on Metro Sports. Kansas City enters the contest in third place of the Western Division while Los Angeles stands second, just two points ahead.

Kansas City and D.C. United will meet Saturday afternoon, 4 p.m. (EST), at Arrowhead Stadium. The match will be televised on ESPN.

Goode will remain with the team through Sunday. At that point, Wizards team doctors will evaluate the health of Meola and determine his status. Once Meola is cleared to play, Goode will return to the Silverbacks.
