Men's Soccer Set For Home Opener Against Liberty

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University men's soccer team will open its 2008 home schedule against the Liberty Flames Saturday Sept. 6 at 1:00 p.m. at Sam Hood Field. The Thundering Herd comes into Saturday's contest with a record of 0-2 after opening the season at the Davidson Invitational. The Flames enter the contest undefeated at 2-0. Marshall and Liberty have met five times dating back to the 1996 season with the Flames holding a 3-1-1 record against the Herd. The lone win for Marshall came in 2001, the last time the two teams met in Huntington, with a 3-0 victory. Senior Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.) has played every minute at goal keeper for the Herd and has made nine saves on the season. Liberty is led by freshman standout Darren Amoo, who already has three goals on the year. Admission to the game is free and Game Tracker will be available on www.herdzone.com.
