Marshall Opens Conference Play against Rival Kentucky

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University men's soccer team will start off conference play against the University of Kentucky Wednesday Oct. 1 at Sam Hood Field.

The Thundering Herd (0-7-1) have played the Wildcats 25 times coming into this season. Last year in the regular season Marshall was defeated 3-1 in Lexington, Ky.

The two teams met again in the first round of the Conference USA tournament with the Herd coming out with a 3-1 edge over Kentucky. Since both teams joined C-USA the record stands even at 1-1-2.

The Wildcats are entering Wednesday's contest with a record of 4-2-2 and currently on a two-match scoreless tie streak.

Last time out, Marshall tied with Bowling Green, 3-3 at home Saturday. In the contest, senior Sterling Flunder (Bothell, Wash.) scored two goals along with junior Dustin Dawes (Nashville, Tenn.) who scored his second of the season.

Leading Kentucky this season is senior Michael Strong who has five goals and one assist on the year.

The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and admission is free. The game can be heard exclusively on WMUL 88.1's website, http://www.marshall.edu/wmul. The game will be available on stream two on the right hand side of the screen.
