ORLANDO, Fla. - The Thundering Herd women's basketball team is set to begin its 2008 Conference USA Tournament run with a game against Tulane at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the UCF Arena.

Marshall (15-15, 7-9 C-USA) is winless in three tries against Tulane (16-13, 6-10 C-USA), who topped the Herd by a score of 61-56 in their regular season meeting in New Orleans earlier this season. Marshall enters the tournament as the sixth seed while Tulane is No. 11. The winner will face the third seed, UAB, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Kizzy Hart has been the scoring lead for Marshall throughout the year and finished the regular season with an average of 14.4 points per game. She saved her best performance for last, scoring a career-high 27 points in Saturday's regular season finale at Houston. In four games in the state of Texas, Hart averaged 24.3 PPG.

Joining Hart with her late season success was junior Casey Baker. As was the case with Hart, Baker also closed out the season on a high note, scoring a career-high 28 points to lead all scorers against the Cougars. She averaged five steals over the last weekend of the season, propelling her to the top of the conference in steals for the season, averaging 3.23 per game.

The Herd finished the season on a stretch that saw it fall in nine of its last 13 games while Tulane finished its season by winning five out of its final eight regular season contests. The Green Wave wrapped up their regular season by topping SMU, 71-68. In the C-USA Preseason Poll, Tulane was picked to win the conference, garnering 126 votes, ahead of No. 2 UTEP, who tallied 109.

Nikki Luckhurst led the way for Tulane against SMU, scoring a season-high 24 points while knocking down six threes, putting her second on Tulane's all-time list for three-pointers. Ashley Langford is the leading scorer for the Green Wave with 11.6 PPG.

Memphis and Tulsa open up the tournament at noon on Thursday. Following Marshall's 2:30 contest, #5 Southern Miss and #12 UCF square off at 5:30 before #8 East Carolina and #9 Rice round out the day with tip-off coming at 8 p.m. UTEP, SMU, UAB and Houston, the top four seeds, received byes and will begin tournament action on Friday.

Through its first to C-USA Tournament appearances, the Herd is 1-2 in three games. Two seasons ago, the Herd opened up with an 80-73 win over Memphis before falling to Southern Miss, 60-58. Last season, Houston came out on the winning end of a 71-58 decision as Tye Jackson scored a tournament record 43 points.

All first and second round games can be seen live via video streaming on www.ConferenceUSA.com. The semifinals can be seen live on CSTV while Sunday's championship game will be televised by ESPN2.
