Aug. 6, 2008
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick has announced the signing of forward Keona Brooks to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd beginning in 2008. Brooks, a native of West Memphis, Ark., will begin her junior season at Marshall after spending two seasons playing at Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis. "We are very excited to have Keona in our Marshall family," Chadwick said. "She brings a tremendous inside presence to our team. We look forward to having her on the floor this fall." The 6-0 junior appeared in 18 games due to injury at Southwest Tennessee last season averaging 6.1 rebounds and 7.1 points per game. She scored a season high 23 points in a contest against Roan State while leading the team to a 25-1 record and a Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA) Western Division Championship. The team finished 4th in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll. As a freshman, Brooks played in 28 games, tallying a team high 38 blocks. She averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Brooks averaged 17 PPG as a senior in high school and was named to The Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps All-Metro Team that year.
