CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - The Marshall University women's golf team finished the first day of the Cincinnati Spring Invitational in sixth place and will wrap up play with a round on Saturday.

The Herd shot a 628 on day one, 20 strokes behind leader Florida International, who shot a 608 in the two opening rounds. Just behind Florida International was Florida Atlantic with a 609.

Larie Lynch paced the Herd in its first two rounds, standing in a tie for third place with a 149. Lynch opened play on Friday with a 70 in her first round before registering a 79 in the second and final round of the day. Her first round total of 70 was a tournament low for that round.

Second on the Herd was Andrea Grier, who was tied for 25th with a 159. Two strokes behind Grier was Molly Ginger, who tied for 29th with a 161 while Whitney Wolejko and Kristina Garrett shot scores of 164 and 165, respectively.

Bambee Dela Paz of Cincinnati was the individual leader after day one with a 145. Paula Hurtado of FIU was three strokes behind Dela Paz with a 148 while Lynch was a shot behind with a 149.

The teams will wrap up the tournament on Saturday with one round.
