Women's Golf In Ninth Place Following Opening Round Of C-USA Championship

EL PASO, Texas - Following the opening round of the 2008 Conference USA Championship, the Marshall University women's golf team finds itself in ninth place, 28 strokes off of the lead. Larie Lynch and Andrea Grier paced the Thundering herd in the opening round. Sophomore Larie Lynch shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 14th place. Grier finished the day a stroke behind Lynch, shooting a 77, good for a tie for 19th place. Molly Ginger shot a 9-over 81 and is tied for 37th while Whitney Wolejko and Kristina Garrett finished the day ranked 41st and 43rd, respectively. Southern Mississippi, who was victorious in last weekend's Lady Eagle Invitational, finds itself with a two-shot lead following day one. The Golden Eagles shot a 301, two strokes ahead of UCF, East Carolina and UTEP, who are in a three-way tie for second place, each shooting a 303. Leisl Hasbrouck of Tulsa, Clara Viladomiu of Southern Mississippi and Jaime Brabb of UAB are tied for the individual lead, each shooting an even-par 72.
The teams will play one round on Tuesday before wrapping up the tournament on Wednesday morning.
