WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The Marshall University women's golf team shot a 301 in the second and final round of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate en route to a 13th place finish in the tournament.

Marshall followed up its 305 in day one shooting a combined 301 in the final round. MU finished the tournament with a 606, six strokes out of the top ten.

Kristina Garrett led the way for the Thundering Herd, shooting a 75 on day two on her way to a two-round total of 151. That score tied her for 40th overall.

Kaci Boyd, who led the Herd with a 73 in Monday's opening round, shot an 80 in the second round on her way to a 153, tied with fellow team member Larie Lynch for 52nd. Lynch followed up her 76 on the opening day with a 77.

Maria Battaglia shot the top round for Marshall on Tuesday, finishing with a two-over 74. She finished the tournament with a score of 154. One shot behind Battaglia was Rachel Halloran, who finished the event with a 155.

Host Western Carolina won the tournament, finishing with a two-day total of 578. After shooting a 284 on Monday, the Catamounts shot a 294 on Tuesday, finishing five strokes ahead of Wofford, who shot a 290 to take second place. Tennessee Tech, Samford and Winthrop rounded out the top five.

Lorie Warren of Belmont was the top individual golfer, shooting a three-under 69 in both rounds. She finished a stroke ahead of Sarah Hurt of Wofford, who shot a 70 and a 69, respectively. Eight golfers finished the event under par.

The Herd will have a three-week break before returning to action on October 6 in the Lady Herd Fall Classic.
