MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - The Marshall University women's golf team finished up the opening round of play in the Spider Invitational in 14th place.

Junior Larie Lynch paced the Thundering Herd once again, shooting a five-over 77, which put her in a tie for 14th place overall.

Four shots behind Lynch was sophomore Rachel Halloran, who shot an 81 and finished the day tied for 43rd.

Molly Ginger shot the third best score for Marshall, hitting an 85. She was followed by freshmen Maria Battaglia and Kaci Boyd, who finished with an 88.

Wofford leads the event after shooting a 295 in the first round. They were led by Alex Rankin, who shot a two-under 70 to tie for the lead.

Columbia, led by co-leader Stevy Loy, finished the day three strokes behind in second. Longwood will enter the second round in third after an opening day score of 305.

The teams will wrap up the tournament with a round on Tuesday.
