GREENVILLE, N.C. - Marshall is in a three-way tie for seventh place after the second round of play at the 2006 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship, played at Ironwood Golf and Country Club. East Carolina moved into the top spot on Monday and owns a five-stroke lead over SMU and Tulsa.

The Herd's 36-hole score of 637 puts it in a deadlock with UAB and Southern Miss in seventh place. Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) and Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) posted Marshall's best two first-round scores, 75 and 76, respectively, but both golfers fired an 81 in round two.

Hatcher is in a tie for 25th place, while Mahar is in a tie for 28th place.

SMU junior Jennifer Ackerson tied the C-USA championship record for low round with a 68. Ackerson and UTEP junior Gerina Mendoza, who led the medalist race after the opening round with a 69, are tied for first entering Tuesday's final round with a one-under 143.

Herd junior Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.) registered MU's best total in round two, firing an 8-over 80, her second straight round with an 80.

Final round action begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
