Women's Soccer Finishes its Final Season Road Trip, 0-2
Oct. 28, 2007
COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. - The Marshall women's soccer team finished its final road trip of the season with a loss against Conference USA opponent Colorado College, 7-0, at Stewart Field, Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper Liz Orton (Fort Collins, Colo.) continued to add to her personal best single-season saves record Sunday with seven against CC. She currently has 91 saves this season with two games left on the season schedule. The Thundering Herd dropped to 4-11-1 overall and 1-5-1 in C-USA while the Tigers advanced to 9-4-3 overall and 4-2-1 in C-USA. "Colorado is a very good team," Marshall head coach Chris Kane said. "Unfortunately, we started the game bad and it continued to get worse after the first Colorado [College] goal." Marshall's senior Sue Ahrens (Waterford, Pa.) and freshman Erika Duncan (Easthaven, Scotland) were the leaders for the Herd with both tallying two shots with one shot being placed on goal. Colorado College's Tiffany Brown led the Tigers with two goals, one in the first 28 seconds and then in the 24th minute. The first goal was off passes from teammates Jessica Beinlich and Amara Wilson. The second goal was scored off a penalty kick. Meredith Smith finished the game in the 74th minute with the Tigers seventh goal off a Rachel Honick pass. CC's Emily Beans, Lisa Balsama, Amara Wilson, and Megan Currey also tallied goals for the Tigers. "We played hard on Friday against UTEP," coach Kane added. "However, we weren't capable to turn around and play a team like Colorado College on Sunday." The Tigers continue to lead the series against the Herd, 2-0. CC outshot the Herd 20-19, with 14 shots being placed on goal. Marshall will play host to two C-USA foes this coming weekend to finish its regular season schedule. On Friday, Nov. 2, the Herd will face Memphis at 7 p.m. at Sam Hood Field. Then Marshall will turn around and face UAB on Sunday, Nov. 4 for Senior Day with kick-off set for 1 p.m.
