Jeff Gentner Joins Marshall Women's Soccer Staff

5/7/2001

Huntington, W.Va. - Marshall University women's soccer coach Teresa Patterson announced today that former Marshall men's soccer player and current Huntington High School boys soccer coach Jeff Gentner has joined the Marshall women's soccer staff as an assistant coach.

"I am very excited to add Jeff to our staff," said Patterson. "His experiences as an athlete and a coach will be a benefit to our program as we continue to build Marshall Women's Soccer into a nationally recognized program."

In his first season as head coach, Gentner led the Huntington High boys team to an 18-2-2 record and a berth in the 2000 West Virginia Class AAA Final Four . Since 1998, he has served as a coach for the West Virginia Rowdies Soccer Club and as an instructor at Marshall's Summer Soccer Camps.

"I'm looking forward to being involved with college soccer at the Division I level again," said Genter. "The players on the team are dedicated to the sport they love, and I will do my best to help them stay focused and playing to the best of their potential."

The native of Paducah, Ky., graduated from Marshall with a B.A. in Sports Marketing and Management in 2000. He began his collegiate career at Reinhardt College in Georgia, prior to transferring to Marshall in 1998, where he played under Head Coach Bob Gray.

Last season, Marshall's women's soccer compiled a record of 8-10-1 in only its third season of play. In 2001, the Thundering Herd coaching staff will welcome back 18 players from that squad.
