8/2/2000
New York, NY - Soccerbuzz Magazine, one of the nation's leading on-line women's soccer publications, has rated Marshall University's incoming recruiting class the ninth best in the Mid-Atlantic Region and among the top 100 classes in the nation.
"Its an honor to be recognized by such a respected source," said Head Coach Teresa Patterson. "This is a talented class that will compliment our returning players very well. We already have a strong foundation and I am looking forward to a very exciting season."
Marshall was one of only two Mid-American Conference schools to be included in Soccerbuzz's national and regional recruiting class rankings. The other, Central Michigan, was rated ninth in the Great Lakes Region.
Soccerbuzz's editorial staff tabbed Marshall's class ninth out of the 44 schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region and in the top 100 of the 272 school's that sponsor women's soccer at the NCAA Division I level. A complete list of all rankings and a database that includes every women's soccer recruit in the nation can be viewed on-line at www.soccerbuzz.com.
Marshall returns nine starters and 16 letter-winners from last season's 6-10-3 squad, including second-team All-Mid-American Conference selection Lindsey Jayjack.
The Thundering Herd will begin the 2000 season by hosting Youngstown State University on August 25 at Sam Hood Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
