Softball Falls to #25 Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio- The Marshall University softball team (10-18) dropped two games to the #25 ranked Buckeyes of Ohio State University today. The Herd fell 10-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second contest of the day.
“We really can’t afford to come out with the lack of intensity that we had today,” head coach Shonda Stanton said. “Now we just have to pick it up and get ready for MAC play.”
Ohio State was able to capitalize on three Marshall errors in the first game as they scored five unearned runs in the second inning. The Buckeyes were able to put five more runs on the board in the fourth as they posted eight hits in the inning.
Marshall wasn’t able to push a run across as they fell by the final of 10-0. The Herd’s Vanessa Clarkson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was one-for-two with a triple and De’Shaun Drake (Spring Valley, Calif.) was also one-for-two.
In the second contest, Ohio State struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a home run by Sarah West to knock in two runs. The Buckeyes added four more to their run total, putting them up 7-0 after two innings of play.
Marshall could only muster one hit and dropped the second contest 8-0. Sierra Davenport (Tucson, Ariz.) had the lone hit for the Herd.
Marshall will return home to take on Eastern Michigan University in a Mid-American Conference double-header on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m.
