HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall University softball team will look to avenge a pair of Mid-American Conference losses to Ohio last week, when they challenge the Bobcats on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Ohio Softball Field.
The game was switched from Wednesday, as originally scheduled, to Thursday due to heavy rains.
Marshall (25-19, 6-3) was dealt a duo of losses by Ohio (10-21, 4-4) last Tuesday, 3-2 and 5-4, in Athens. The two-game skid dropped the Herd from first to third in the early-goings of the MAC East Conference race. Erin Chapman, who was later named MAC East Player of the Week, tallied two home runs and four RBIs for the Bobcats in the fateful finale.
The Herd was able to rally this weekend when it took some time off its hectic league schedule for a journey to Arkansas. MU dropped an 11-inning heartbreaker to the Razorbacks, 1-0, in game one before striking back for a 3-0 victory over the Southeastern Conference opponent.
Ohio split a doubleheader at Ball State on Saturday before losing to the Cardinals in the sequence final, 5-4, on Sunday. Natalie Armstrong remains steady on the Bobcat mound with a 2.18 ERA and a 3-3 record in 25 appearances. Jennifer Tisevich hits a team-leading .370 with 37 hits at the third slot to counter clean-up batter Chapman.
MU players continue to pace most conference leader categories. Sierra Davenport (Tucson, Ariz.) leads the MAC in hits (54) and runs scored (37), Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) pilots the RBI (36), doubles (10) and triples (5) categories while Leigh Wintter (Acworth, Ga.) dominates the conference in home runs (9). Marshall leads all league teams in hitting with a .283 batting average.
