Folden Named C-USA Hitter of the Week For Second-Straight Week

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University senior Rachel Folden was named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, her second-consecutive award, for her play during the week of April 6-13, as announced by the conference office Monday. The Baldwin Park, Calif., native received her third weekly accolade of the season and eighth of her career. Folden guided Marshall to a 3-2 record last week, which included a 2-1 series victory over C-USA foe, UAB. The All-American catcher went 5-for-9 with 11 walks. Four of her five hits were extra base hits, three of them home runs. During the UAB series, she had a lead off homer in game one and was walked twice to help Marshall to a 6-4 10 inning marathon victory. In the series finale, Folden delivered her first-career triple to guide the Herd to an 11-0 mercy-rule win to seal Marshall's first home conference series at the new Dot Hicks Field. Folden had a slugging percentage of 1.778 and an on-base percentage of .800. Her three homers were followed by four RBIs and six runs scored. She now has 13 homers on the season and 54 during her four-year career. Folden shared the award with Houtson's Jennifer Klinert. The Pitcher of the Week Award was given to Angel Shamblin also of Houston.
