Amanda Williams Named Conference USA Hitter of the Week
April 24, 2006 IRVING, Texas - Marshall Thundering Herd senior centerfielder Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga./Harrison) was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office. Williams' honor marks the third weekly accolade for the Herd (29-21, 13-8 C-USA) this season and the second this month. Abigail Harter (Monmouth, Ore./Santiam Christian) was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week April 3. For Williams, it is her first C-USA weekly honor this season. Williams hit .438 (7-for-16) with three doubles and three RBI, leading the Herd to a 4-1 record last week. In the Herd's 9-8 comeback win over Ohio Tuesday, she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Saturday, Williams set the single-season school record for doubles against Tulsa with her 20th two-bagger of the season, eclipsing the old mark of 19 set last season. She hit two more doubles in the series as the Herd won the three-game set with the first-place Golden Hurricane. Currently, Williams leads the Herd in runs scored (42), hits (59), doubles (22) and stolen bases (12). She is second in home runs (seven) and total bases (102) and is one of five players with 20 or more RBI for the Herd. The Marshall Thundering Herd begins its final five-game stretch of the 2006 regular season Tuesday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Morehead State. Marshall will then to venture to Southaven, Miss., to face Memphis for its final C-USA series of the season. Marshall's Conference USA Weekly Honors
