Allison Webb Named MAC Player of the Week

4/28/2003

Allison Webb collected 10 RBIs on the week to help the Herd clinch its first outright MAC championship.

CLEVELAND - After helping the Herd clinch its first ever outright Mid-American Conference championship, Marshall’s Allison Webb was named the Mid-American Conference Softball Player of the Week.

The Herd’s designated player went 6-for-15 on the week and drove in ten runs batting in the fifth spot for the Thundering Herd. Most importantly however, the sophomore slugger stroked her fifth and sixth home runs of the season in the three-game series with Ohio. Webb blasted a dramatic walk-off three run home run in game two, lifting the Herd to victory and allowing MU to clinch the outright MAC championship. She went 3-for-3 and added four more RBIs to her tally in the final game on Sunday.

The 2003 squad is now Marshall’s most successful softball team in the history of the program, reaching 40 wins with a 10-2 thrashing of Ohio University on Sunday. The Herd will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday to take on Ohio State University in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. Marshall will compete as the number one seed in the MAC tournament, which will be held at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio May 8th -10th.
