HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University softball program inked three additional signees to join the 2010 signing class head coach Shonda Stanton  announced Thursday.

Morgan Cottrell (Spencer, W.Va.), Jessica Ferrick (Centreville, Va.) and Victoria Marvin (Centreville, Va.) have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Thundering Herd for the 2010 season.

"We are so pleased to round out our class of 2010 with the addition of Morgan, Jess and Victoria," Stanton said. "All three of these student-athletes excel in the classroom and on the field."

Cottrell comes from Roane County High School where she holds the career and season stolen base records. She is a three-time second team all-state recipient, and a four-time first team all-Little Kanawha Conference selection.

"Morgan has incredible speed and will hopefully chase the stolen base records, both single season and career, at Marshall," Stanton said. "She is strong in the classroom, a well balanced student-athlete, and a highly motivated individual who will wear the green and white with great pride."

While at RCHS, Cottrell was the president of National Honor Society and class valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average.

Centreville High School teammates Ferrick and Marvin will add depth to the Marshall infield next season. Ferrick concluded her senior season at CHS with a .450 batting average and a 0.50 ERA. In 2009 she was named first team all-northern region honoree and second team all-met. Ferrick is a two time first team all-district and second team all-region.

"Jess will challenge for starting time at first base and add depth for us on the mound for quality innings," Stanton said. "As a daughter of a coach she understands the game and can provide leadership within our program."

Ferrick has also play for Jerry Sokol's Xplosion club team based out of Clifton, Va.

The final signee, Marvin, is a 2009 first team all-northern region recipient, and a two-time all-district tournament team honoree. She also has garnered first and second team all-district and second team all-region accolades, and is a four time Academic All-American.

Marvin finished her senior season at CHS with a .471 batting average, a .532 on-base percentage and a team-best 28 RBI.

"Victoria is a strong athlete with all the tools to be a consistent power hitter for the middle of our lineup," Stanton said. "She has a good arm, is a solid fielder and has the versatility to play in the infield or behind the plate. Securing a student-athlete like Victoria was a priority for this incoming class."

Marvin also played for Jerry Sokol's Xplosion club team based out of Clifton, Va.

Cottrell, Ferrick and Marvin will join Ashley Gue, Bri Hope, Taylor Thompson, Jazmine Valle and Brittney Ybarra as Marshall softball's incoming freshman class.

"This is a big class of newcomers with a variety of successful experience who will challenge each other and our returning players to elevate our level of play," Stanton said. "The depth in this year's roster will be key in our fight for the 2010 C-USA title."
