Huntington, W.Va. - Head coach Shonda Stanton recently announced Amanda Williams as the new assistant coach of the Marshall University softball team.

"No one knows our program better than Amanda," Stanton said. "She was a difference maker as a player for the Herd and has a strong passion to see our current student-athletes excel."

Williams, who played for the Thundering Herd from 2003-06, joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach in 2007.

During her days as a student-athlete, Williams left her mark in the record books as the top player in career hits, runs scored, doubles, RBIs and total bases. She earned four first-team all-conference honors; three as a member of the Mid-American Conference and one in Conference USA.

In 2006, Amanda was drafted by the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch. She has spent the last two seasons as a member of the Rockford Thunder following her trade in 2007.

"We are very fortunate to have Amanda continue to make an impact on our program" Stanton said.
