Marshall Falls to Miami in Season Opener
Oct. 6, 2007 Marshall-Miami Complete Results (10/6/07)
OXFORD, Ohio - Despite several strong performances the Marshall swimming and diving team dropped its opening meet of the season to Miami University on Saturday in Oxford, Ohio. "I felt like we were a little hesitant at first," Marshall head coach Leonard Kraus said. "I thought that we swam better in the second half of the meet because we started to relax." Senior Michaela Sceli turned in a pair of strong performances. The Marshall record holder won the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:43.58 and placed second in the 100-meter breast, clocking in at 1:13.97. Sceli was followed in the 200 by fellow Herd swimmer Ally Melinsky, who finished in second-place with a time 2:47.44. Sophomore transfer Jenny Johnnson won the 400-meter freestyle and was second in the 800-meter event in her first meet with the Herd. Kristin Wheatley took home a first-place finish in the 200 IM, followed by Melinsky who was second in the event. Marshall was dominant in the 400-meter freestyle relay, coming away with first, second and third-place. Freshmen Lauren Fairbanks and Jenae Moreno combined with Johnnson and senior Ashley McIlvain to earn the win with a time of 4:17.21. "This is the first time we've started off the duel season 0-1, and that is kind of hard to take, but Miami is a really good squad" Kraus said. "I thought we did some good things today. I'm excited for our next meet."
Marshall will be in action again next weekend when it travels to Xavier on Friday, Oct. 12 and to Ashland on Oct. 13. |
