Marshall Swimming And Diving Add Two More To Inaugural Class
4/15/2002
Huntington, W. Va.--Marshall University Head Women’s Swimming and Diving coach Leonard Kraus has announced the signings of two more athletes to National Letters of Intent. Emily Moe, from Rockford, Michigan, and Michele Knicely, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, have each inked with the Thundering Herd this spring, bringing his inaugural class total to three. Marshall begins its first year of women’s varsity swimming and diving since 1974, when the Herd fielded a team for one year.
Moe comes to Marshall from Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan. During her final year with Rockford, Moe finished 12th at the Michigan State Meet in the 100 breastroke, and was a member of the 200 medley relay team that took third at the state meet.
Kraus is excited to have Moe and Knicely join his first team at Marshall.
“Emily is a wonderful girl. She always seems to have a smile on,” said Kraus. “She brings an amazing attitude to the team, which will not only help her improve, but also everyone else around her.”
Moe plans on majoring in elementary education.
Knicely is Kraus’ first signee from the state of West Virginia. Knicely finished third in the 100 fly and second in the 100 breast at the state high school championships earlier this year.
“Michele is a fun, vibrant girl, a good student, and a diamond in the rough. I think she will develop and do some great things for this program.”
Knicely plans on studying psychology.
