Swimming And Diving Releases 2002-03 Schedule

6/14/2002

Huntington, W. Va.--Marshall Head Swimming and Diving Coach Leonard Kraus has announced his first team's schedule for 2002-03. The schedule includes six home meets, with dates against 2001-02 MAC Champion Miami and conference rival Ohio set for the renovated Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium. Marshall will also play host to the Marshall Invitational on November 22nd and 23rd, with teams still to be announced.

"I'm pleased with the home meets we have," said Kraus. "The best teams in the Mid-American conference come to our house, which is great for the community. Miami won the MAC last season, and Ohio finished second, so the quality programs can be seen right away here in Huntington."

The Herd open the 2002-03 season at home against Youngstown State on October 26th. Ohio comes calling on November 6th, while conference rivals Ball State and Miami come to Huntington on January 18th and 26th, respectively. Radford closes out non-conference competition for the Herd at home on January 25th.

Kraus sees close meets with Radford and Youngstown State.

"Radford and Youngstown State are in the same shoes as us. Both are relatively young, and both are trying to break through. Radford is in their second year, while Youngstown is beginning their sixth season. It should be competitive."

The Herd's last three out of four meets are at home, which is a great advantage, says Kraus.

"Sleeping in your own bed and being in comfortable surroundings at the end of the season is a huge plus for a young team. We'll have some time at home to concentrate on the MAC Championships."
