Marshall Divers Traveling to Hoosierland Invite
Nov. 14, 2007
HUNTINGTON - The diving portion of the Marshall swimming and diving team will be in action this week as the team's four-member diving squad is set to compete in the Hoosierland Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. on Nov. 15-17. With over 40 entrants in the dving events, Marshall's quartet should be tested against some of the nation's best divers. The Herd will be led by reigning Conference USA Diver of the Week Siobhan Schuurman who is coming off of back-to-back record-setting performances against both Radford and Vanderbilt. The Alberta, Canada native qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships with a school record 280.72 on the one-meter at Radford. "This will be a good chance for Siobhan to compete against some of the divers she will see at the NCAA Zone meet," Marshall diving coach Lori Meierbachtol said. "It will really good for all of our girls to get experience against some top national divers." Marshall's freshman diving pair of Haley Holmquist and Jordon Weber finished first and second respectively in both the one-meter and three meter events against Vanderbilt. Both newcomers were also over the 200-point mark in each event. Junior Rachel Hannum crossed the 200-point mark in the one-meter for the first time in her career with a score of 210.90 against the Commodores. "Overall, I expect us to perform pretty well even against some tough competition," Meierbachtol said. "I expect our girls to just have a really solid meet."
